Whispering the F Word

words

My friend’s granddaughter was over her house and they got to talking about words. The six year old girl told her grandmother that there were “good” words and “bad” words. That statement prompted this conversation and I swear to you this is all true. For the sake of this blog and to protect the child I will call her “Molly” but it’s not her real name.

“What are bad words?” asked the grandmother.

“The words you can’t say or you’ll get in trouble,” Molly said.

The grandmother was curious about what “bad words” the little girl knew so she decided to proceed further and ask some questions.

“There are words you can’t say?” she asked.

“Yes,” Molly replied.

“Like what?” asked the grandmother.

Molly looks over her shoulder and then gets really close to her grandmother and whispers in her ear.

“Damn.”

The grandmother was surprised but still wanted to know more.

“Are there any other words you can’t say, Molly?”

This time the little girl whispers shit. The grandmother continued to ask and Molly continued to whisper softly in her grandmother’s ear the following words: hell, bitch, and even fuck. The grandmother was trying to contain her combination of shock that mixed with her desire to crack up laughing but she kept it together long enough to ask what would happen to Molly if she said those words in front of her mother. Molly said she would get grounded, sent to her room, and she would cry.

The thought of Molly crying broke the grandmother’s heart and she asked her if her mother would feel bad if she made her cry. Molly shook her little six year old head and whispered in her grandmother’s ear:

No, she doesn’t give a fuck.
